In this post, I will explore all of the steps involved to get your blog up and running. Wherever you are in this process, there is guidance for what it takes to start blogging.
4 Easy Steps to Start a WordPress Blog
Step 1: Find a Blogging Topic or Niche
Let’s start at the very beginning. You know what you want to blog about already, don’t you?
You are free here. There is no one telling you what to do- so just take a break and pick something you want to focus on instead of doing anything at all.
You don’t have to be an expert on the topic (yet), but it needs to be something that will keep you busy for hours without getting bored.
There are so many different types of blogs out there for everyone to write about. You may want to look at some of the most popular ones for inspiration before deciding what you want to do.
This world is bursting at the seams with different people, cultures, and lifestyles. The blogosphere is an extension of this reality where everyone has a voice no matter what they are passionate about. This means there will be blogs for critics, instructors, solo musicians, bands, and genres- anything you can think of related to music exists here.
Blogging doesn’t only come down to choosing what to write about, it also matters how you will tackle the topic. One blogger is an active musician and another one is a music critic who shares their thoughts on musical genres. Their blogs may have very similar topics but they won’t feel or appear the same.
With any given blog topic, there are limitless possibilities where your article can lead. It doesn’t mean you’ll only stay within the boundaries of that subject indefinitely- keep an open mind when writing!
If you’re looking for some inspiration for your next blog post, feel free to explore a few ideas and see what resonates most with you.
Step 2: Choose a Domain Name for Your Blog
Once you’ve chosen your topic and made sure it isn’t already taken, it’s time to register a domain name for your blog.
What is a domain name? It’s your web address – every time you go online, you need an internet connection and a browser. However, if you’re reading this post from your mobile phone or tablet, it’s already connected to the internet through wifi or cellular service.
You are looking for something that will speak to your blog topic and how you plan to cover it.
It can sometimes feel impossible to find the perfect domain name. After all, most good ones are already taken and it’s especially hard if you’re looking for one with a .com extension
There are hundreds of domain extensions out there, but only one that matters. And it’s the .com extension. Make sure you utilize it if you’re able to because this extension has proven time and time again how valuable it is for anyone looking to market themselves online.
But don’t fret! It doesn’t matter what extension or creativity method you use, just as long as your website does well for yourself!
Some Tips for Choosing the Perfect Domain Name for Your Blog
- What should you use for your blog title – using your personal name or picking a more general topic?: Answering this question should be easy. Are you writing a blog to express your own thoughts, or do you want to grow an audience
- Make it easy to type: There are so many tactics out there for increasing web traffic, but none will work for you if you have no one coming to your site in the first place.
- Make it pronounceable: With words being such an integral part of communication, there’s no reason to complicate things with difficult spellings or inventive spelling.
- Keep it short: A shorter character set means fewer issues for the user and less chance of typing incorrectly.
- Don’t use other companies’ brand names: They’ll come after you and do their best to keep you closed up.
- Try to use broad keywords: Top-level topics like cooking are great, but it can’t work without having details underneath. You’re going to need smaller keywords and be able to tie them together in order for Google to recognize what your website is about. With a little elbow grease, Semrush will do just that – come up with popular search queries from people who might want something similar to what you offer.
- Ensure that the blog’s name makes sense: Google needs to make it easier for us and provide us with relevant results.
- Do not use numbers or hyphens: The complexity of these words may make them difficult to understand for other people.
- Do not use numbers or hyphens: The complexity of these words may make them difficult to understand for other people.
If possible try to include a keyword related to your article in your article. For example, if you are writing about musical instruments, it may be wise to include the word guitar because this relates to guitars. Make sure that you don’t make it too obvious though or use those keywords too often.
Step 3: Find a Web Hosting
One of the most important parts of starting a website is making sure you have everything necessary to make it accessible. Without both a domain and web hosting, your website would not be seen on any device capable of connecting to the internet or receive any amount of traffic. A true necessity for all types of business owners!
As you may know, there are many options when it comes to hosting. Some of them don’t provide the best services or they even might leak your personal information which would make you very upset. Be sure to find a provider that is reliable, safe, and has a good reputation so you can sleep soundly at night!
If you need to host or register your website, then check out Hostinger. They have excellent web hosting and domain name services available for free.
I recommend going for that middle plan, Premium Shared Hosting. That’s the cheapest option out of all four and what do you know – it comes with a free domain too!
Optimizing your blog for WordPress will make it easier to get going without having to do too much work. The only cost will be some time and patience.
Let’s go through the setup process.
Step 4: Set Up Your Site on Hostinger
Hostinger has everything you need to host your website. All you need to do is head on over to our site by clicking here, then click Start Now and select Premium Shared Hosting.
You’ll be taken to the checkout page when you choose your hosting plan.
Keep in mind, that you’ll only receive the discounted rate of $1.99 per month if you sign up for four years of hosting upfront.
No worries about locking in for an indefinite amount of time—Hostinger is all about customizable plans. You can choose from a number of different plans that give you everything from 3 months to 1 year or 2 years depending on what meets your needs and budget best!
When you complete the checkout process and submit your payment information, you will be taken to Hostinger’s great setup wizard.
This part is my favorite because it gets me up and running quickly. Hostinger’s wizard asks me just three quick questions and then adjusts the settings to match what I need.
If you’re a novice website designer or beginner who still wants help, this service will provide you support throughout the process while also giving expert advice when needed. Alternatively, if you’re an expert website builder or professional who doesn’t need any support at all, it’ll make things easy for you without getting in your way.
Next, you’ll pick the type of platform you want your site to be on. Since we’re going for a WordPress blog, go ahead and click WordPress.
Now it’s time to decide which platform you’ll use for your website. For this article, we’re going to make a WordPress blog so please go ahead and select WordPress from the drop-down menu on the left.
Click on ‘select’ at the top of this screen, and the next step will ask you whether you want to create a new website or log into an existing one. For added security, there is never a need to leave this window before finalizing your profile information because it is all done in one go!
Hostinger provides a selection of website templates for those who are just getting started.
If you want to speed up the building process for your site and be able to change things more quickly, then browse through these various website themes available.
Themes will provide a great foundation for customization because they will come pre-loaded with images, words, color schemes, headers and footers that you can use without spending hours finding what’s perfect for your business needs or style.
You can always decide if you want to do a theme or not by scrolling below the Show More button where there is a line of words under it that does or doesn’t have a font.
Now for the next big thing you’ll need to do before starting your blog. Securing its own domain name so it can’t be stolen or compromised.
This is included with your Premium Hostinger Shared Hosting Plan!
All you need to do is click Select on the left side of the screen under Buy a Domain. After selecting this option, enter the domain name you want to buy and hit Enter.
If you’ve already done the hard work of selecting your future site’s domain, just put it here and select it from the list that pops up when you click Search.
You need to spend $10 extra per year if you want WHOIS privacy because it will keep your personal information from becoming public.
Hackers and scammers are usually able to find out who owns a domain, but if you enable WHOIS protection for Hostinger domains, they will only see our company’s contact details instead.
You can check out on that screen because you’re paying for the paid WHOIS privacy add-on. And then, once your order has been processed, it really does seem like we’ve done all of the work for you!
With Hostinger, it takes about two minutes to set up your WordPress installation and connect it to your domain. Once that’s complete, you’re automatically redirected to your Account Dashboard where all of the essentials can be accessed from one place.
Hostinger makes it easy for you to work on your own website. If you have one, just sign in and click WordPress from the left-hand navigation menu and take care of it!
You can find all sorts of useful information about your WordPress installation including the current version, any pending tasks and much more. You can see this information with just one click in the above image.
Now that WordPress is installed, you can start creating your blog. All you need to do is click Edit Website on the right and you’ll be taken to the WordPress interface.
Your site is now live and available for visitors. And if you want to attract some, then start publishing content. Write up that first blog post now!
From your WordPress dashboard, click Add New from the left-hand navigation menu.
Please click here to go to the post editor. Once there, you can click Publish at the top right corner of the screen and start typing your blog post!
As well as adding new pages to your site (like an About Me page), you can also install themes and plugins which will give your WordPress blog a design of your choosing.
The key to a successful business is to create quality content – one of the many reasons you built your blog was so that you could do just that!
Creating your own site is easy with content management systems like WordPress these days. And once it’s live on the internet, you can link it to popular social media sites to promote it if you so desire – increasing its visibility tremendously.
It’s an important step and you need to make sure that you keep it going.
There are many steps before you can find success online, but now with a blog topic, domain, and hosting in hand – it’s time to start creating something worth reading.
When you put in effort into what you do, this will give great results. It doesn’t matter if it’s something simple or something big – as long as there is passion at the heart of every task and action, your hard work will never go unnoticed.
Consistently publish posts while you’re still just starting out so that once people are drawn to what you write, they can find a library of content waiting for them when they click through.
When writing every blog post, take just a few moments to make sure you are doing it right.
I hope all goes well with your new WordPress blog! If you need anything, just let me know.
